Types of Bridge Cranes

Top Running Single Girder Bridge Crane
A top-running single girder bridge crane uses one main bridge beam that supports the hoist and trolley. The crane travels along runway beams mounted on building columns, making it a cost-effective solution for many lifting applications.
Key characteristics
- Single bridge girder supporting hoist and trolley
- Travels on top of elevated runway beams
- Typically used for light to medium lifting capacities
- Efficient design requiring less structural material

Double Girder Top Running Bridge Crane
A double girder bridge crane features two bridge beams supporting the trolley and hoist. This design allows for higher lifting capacities and longer spans, making it suitable for heavy-duty industrial applications. Prolift can help you find the right double girder bridge crane solution for your operation.
Key characteristics
- Two bridge girders supporting trolley and hoist
- Suitable for heavier loads and longer spans
- Can accommodate walkways, maintenance platforms, or cabs
- Common in heavy manufacturing and fabrication environments

Single Girder Under Running Bridge Crane
Single girder under-running bridge cranes, also known as underhung cranes, travel along the bottom flange of steel beams and do not require crane rail. The hoist and trolley run beneath the bridge beam, helping maximize the available headroom in the facility.
Key characteristics
- Suspended from roof or ceiling structure
- Hoist and trolley operate beneath the bridge girder
- Maximizes available headroom
- Suitable for light to medium lifting applications
